Quirky Teens Summer Transition

Beyond Akeela at Lawrence University
Beyond Akeela is held at Camp Akeela Wisconsin located on the campus of Lawrence University. Through a variety of fun and engaging activities, campers forge lasting friendships with one another while working toward their individual goals. Beyond Akeela infuses opportunities to practice life skills in a college setting into a traditional summer camp program for teens. Activities range from traditional camp activities like day hikes and challenge course experiences, to meaningful community service options and university sponsored sessions on college and job readiness. All activities have some intentionality behind them, allowing campers to work on post-secondary life skills in an engaging and fun camp community.
Adventure Trip
The group travels to a beautiful campground in one of the many scenic areas surrounding the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin for a few nights under the stars (and tents!). Short hikes with rewarding views, rafting trips and other choice outdoor activities fill the days. Of course, no camping trip is complete without chances for s’mores and sharing stories around the campfire!
The Big Trip
The culminating trip of Beyond Akeela! A week of travel to exciting must see attractions in Chicago and beautiful natural wonders around a popular vacation area in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Dells. From planning meals to daily agendas, the camper’s hands are all over this trip. The Big Trip provides new settings for campers to continue practicing a wide range of independent living skills, all while enjoying a once in a lifetime trip with their best friends from camp! Accommodations at a popular water park resort in the Wisconsin Dells and private dorm-style rooms at HI Chicago, right in downtown Chicago.
